Compassion is costly. In a world of turmoil and pain, it is easy to feel pity for those who suffer. But compassion is different from pity. Pity is a feeling; compassion is an action. Compassion brought Jesus into our world to experience our joys and griefs, our life and death. Compassion is how Jesus effected our salvation. Compassion calls us, too, as the Body of Christ, to live alongside others in solidarity – to enter into their experiences and work to transform lives with the love of God that has been poured into our hearts in Christ Jesus.
