Encouragement
When the waters rise up, what words rescue you? Maybe it’s a song lyric from forever ago. Or perhaps a phrase an elder spoke, which you find yourself repeating. (“This too shall pass” or “Que sera sera” were my grandmother’s favorites.) The scriptures urge us to use the word of God in this way: to bind it to our forehead and carve it onto the tablet of our heart. “Encouragement” holds the Latin word cor, meaning heart, at its center. We find encouragement, we take heart, from the words that center us. Write God’s words of hope on your heart.
Ánimo
Cuando las aguas suben, ¿qué palabras te rescatan? Tal vez sea la letra de una canción de hace mucho tiempo. O tal vez una frase que dijo un anciano, que te encuentras repitiendo. ("Esto también pasará" y "Que será, será" eran las frases favoritas que mi abuela para darnos ánimo). Las Escrituras nos instan a usar la palabra de Dios de esta manera: a atarla a nuestra frente y tallarla en la tabla de nuestro corazón. La palabra ánimo viene del latín ánima, que significa espíritu o alma. Cuando nos damos ánimo, elevamos nuestro espíritu y activamos nuestras almas. Que la palabra de Dios siempre nos levante el ánimo.
