Mother
In Advent, I think of Mary, who carried the One who carries us all. Through her and the ways of Jesus, we get a glimpse of God’s love that is nurturing, unconditional, and everlasting. Mother can mean many things. It may be the people who gave us life, or the ones who feed, encourage, and guide us; and sometimes those who mother us are not women at all, but anyone who shows that kind of care. To be mothered is to be cared for and strengthened for the journey. Advent invites us to honor those who have mothered us, whether family, friends, or chosen kin, and to share that care with others. Who has carried you in love? How might you mother someone else this season?
Madre
En Adviento, pienso en María, que cargó a Aquel que nos carga a todos. A través de ella y de los caminos de Jesús, podemos vislumbrar el amor de Dios, que es nutritivo, incondicional y eterno. “Madre” puede significar muchas cosas. Pueden ser las personas que nos dieron la vida, o las que nos alimentan, alientan y guían; y a veces quienes nos cuidan no son mujeres, sino cualquier persona que muestre ese tipo de cuidado. Con un instinto materno, alguien puede cuidar y fortalecer a otra persona en el viaje de la vida.
